Can you build an MP3 set and easily convert it to WAV?

Hi,

I built a fairly large set using MP3s and am wondering if there's a way for me to use the WAV files i the decoding cache instead of originating with the MP3s?

Not sure if I'm making sense.

Basically I don't want to have to rewarp everything. Now that it's decoded everything I'd love to do a collect all and save, but have it pull the WAV files out, link the .ASD files to the WAV instead of the MP3 file... and then ditch the original MP3s... making it so it doesn't have to decode going forward.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Loopscious

Loopscious yes you can do this.

Once you have imported your mp3 files and Live has decoded them to the cache you can move them (provided they are not in your current set) to the same location as your .asd files. Then, rename the .asd to remove the "mp3" part and replace it with "wav".

For example, you decode a track called "dance party.mp3".

Live creates "dance party.mp3.asd" (with the original mp3) and "dance party.wav" (in the decoding cache).

Copy the .wav to the same place as the mp3/asd and rename the .asd to "dance party.wav.asd"

Hope this helps.

Awesome!

I was just about to post a reply to this to, b/c I just figured that out.

Plus I'm using Manage Files and Hot Swap Mode to switch out the mp3 samples with the WAV files. Then I am going just collect all and resave...

Am I making extra work for myself? In the project, the file browser wants to find MP3s... not the WAVs so I see no alternative.

Thank you!

Both methods work equally as well i think the Manage Files/Hot Swap thingo might make a bit more work for you though.

If your set is really large you might want to look at a bulk file renaming utility.

I use this one, it's really good:http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

This way you can create your set and rename all the .asd's at once at the end.

Mode - cheers for this info! Really useful, and something I've been considering for a fair while myself.

Although the 1,000+ MP3 tracks I use to DJ are a fraction of the size of the decoding cache's associated WAVs, it's still valuable GBs of space they're taking up. Working from the WAV and ASD files keeps it simpler, and keeps the size down to just what's really required.

The large volume was kinda off-putting, if I had to rename the extension of all my ASD files. But that program looks like it will cut out the manual work :)
