With the EMI 2|6.

Crackling, no proper way of monitoring.

...sorry to hear that...if funds are tight a cheap fix would be to get a M-Audio Delta Audiophile 24/96 PCI Card as they are dirt cheap right now.
I use one and it sounds great and works solidly with Live 4.

If you are on a Laptop you could do worse than the Firewire version of the Audiophile- although it is more money.

USB sound cards are all a bit of a mistake if you ask me...(which u didnt but i thought i would share it any way)

My old 2/6 works fine when I need it...
The drivers, and how they (don't) affect AudioMidi Setup are a pain though.
Oh, and a high pitched whine recording audio on usb power.
Got RME now so don't have much use for it.
Paul.

I thought I would add that it works fine with Emagic software. I'm either getting Logic Express or a Firewire audio interface.

I have a 2|6 that I have to pull out sometimes, and there is a fix that you can make to a Live config file that improves the latency. I can't remember what it is....

Anybody got that info?

Hi folks,

there is an option to improve the latency of the EMI on Windows 2000 / XP.

To activate it, please do the following things:

1) Please create a text file called "Options.txt" in the
"C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Ableton\Live 4.0.3\Preferences" folder if it still doesn't exist there.

2) Open this file and add the line "-AsioSupportProcessNow=1" and save the file.

3) If you start Live now it should be possible to get better latencies with the EMI.

regards,
Alex

Thanks alex!

I put that in a note and lost it :-(

I did this on my laptop (before I formatted it recently) and it indeed helped tremendously.

I can't really agree with that at all!!! I use a Tascam US-122 and it works well. Really good for guitar and I have no latency problems. The best is around 7ms which for me is fine.

The biggest problem isn't latency, it's it crackles and pops during playback and recording.

I'm on OSX.

Latest version?

You got enough memory, CPU-power etc.?

I use the EMI for recording and such, it's not great, but it gets the job done. I don't have too many problems with clicks, but I used to. It was completely useless with 10.2 and Live2, as I recall.

iBook 900, 384 megs of RAM, latest OSX and tings. Live3.

i also try to use the emi 62m.
i sometimes get crackles if i set it to 6 ch and 24 bit.
it is too much for usb.
try 2 channels 24 bit. this should work.
but sometimes i get a kind of ringmodulated sound while recording.
this really sucks, because i hear it after i did the recording.
i also get crackles sometimes for recordings.

i also talked to emagic some time ago. and the the guy at emagic admitted that the emi drivers are not programmed by emagic, but by some other company, and need some improvement...

hmmm.... so I wonder what will happen then now that Emagic seems to be dead (consumed into Apple) and discontinuing their hardware products.... I'm curious if my a6|2m interface will work once Apple updates OS X to Tiger next year. Especially now that you mention that they outsourced the drivers.... it doesn't seem likely that they'll do that again to update them for a discontinued product. Which sucks, I like the a6|2m :-( I have a better interface for recording, but for mobile work, it's excellent and I've had no problems with it at all (especially not crackles/pops). even when I'm using it to record and as a USB hub for my MIDI keyboard and sync interface, I've not had problems.
