RAM allocation?

Here's a simple question:
How much ram should I leave for the mac OS(9) when using audio apps such as LIVE? How about Logic/LIVE rewire combo? i have 384mb on my iBook 500, and would like to give the audio apps as much as possible, but i realize that the os needs at least some...When running LIVE in logic, which app should get more? Also, do programs require more RAM when using apple soundmanager? Are there savable "ram profiles" thati don't know about? Any specific numbers would be greatly appreciated.....
