Session Drums / Drum racks combined with EZDrummer as plugin

Hi. I'm really fresh to this whole DAW, VST/AU plugins, drum machines, well, the works.
I've made the decision regarding the main software, as I've purchased the Boxed Suite Live 8.
Live has a new way of doing things compared to the sparse experience I have with traditional, more linear sequencers. I'm starting to appreciate the Session View for solo-jamming and recording guitar tracks with incredible ease, thanks to the global record --> Arrangement track thing.
Really, it is sooo much better than using both Propellar's Record, Logic, or even garage band!
I'm using NI's GuitarRig for virtual guitar amps. Then it is the drums...
I have zero experience using ANY kind of drum-machine type of software. Would it be an idea to use EZDrumer for creating drums for my songs? I've tried to read up on Drumracks and Session Drums, that is included with Live Suite, but it seems a bit advanced for me. I need to easy set up some drummer to drive parts of the composition, but I'm kinda over-eager to get a grip on how to do this...
I think the EZDrummer interface looks great for a novice as myself. Am I wasting money on this with all the stuff that comes with Live Suite, there probably is many ways of achieving my modest needs...
I also own Sonoma RiffWorks, but, well, I think it kinda sucks.
Is EZDrummer a possible "gentle intro" to the world of electronic / digital drums, and can it be used as a feature add-on as a plugin, or would it be to add something thats already there, with a different UI?
