"AIFF" not recognized file format!

hmm - Ableton is rejecting my .aiff files. I don't remember it doing that before. I've been having some trouble with my OS - I'm wondering if that is the source. I get the message that ableton can't recognize the file type "aiff". aif and wav no-extension files are just fine

Anybody see this problem?

why would you have a file that ends .aiff rather than .aif? .aiff is not a real extension

That's a good question. I have some files that came with Csound catalogue that have the aiff extension. I also have some audacity files with that extension. The audacity files I recorded, and I don't remember typing "aiff" as a file extension, or any extension at all for that matter.

Hi There,

I think your problem must lie with the sound files, maybe there corrupted?? I have aiff files on my system (Win XP) and Live can read them fine. AFAICanRemember aiff is the standard Mac audio file format, or at least the joint standard with aif. I used to use aiff files all the time on my mac. AFAIK they provide the exact same functionality as wav's, which is just the default windows format, invented by microsoft, I think?

same here, i've got plenty of .aiff's , .aif's, and .wav's
they all work too.

me thinks you have a corrupt file.
can you open it in another app ?
maybe try opening it in iTunes and importing (encoding) it with iTunes AIFF encoder.

thanks - I thought the 'aiff' extension was legit. On the topic of corrupt files - when I changed the non-working file's extension to 'aif' it worked fine in ableton. I found this on the mac website.

"For best results, the file extension of this file should be .aiff, which will make it useable with iTunes and other audio applications. [2898296]"

I reformatted the drive, reinstalled my OS and then LIVE, and now the AIFF problem is gone.

I have this same issue. Worked totally fine before Live 9. Now in Live 9 I have to add a ".aiff" to the file name, despite the OS already recognizing the file as an AIFF file. wtf? I sure as hell am not formatting my entire hard drive for what clearly is an software issue with Live.
