while playing many of Howard's new presets for Zebra 2.5 the CPU skyrockets and stays stuck. Thing is, another DAW I use performs much much better running Zebra 2.5 so I don't think it's my system
Live 7.0.16

Works Fine here. What's your setup exactly?
What does Urs or Ableton say about your problems?

Some of the presets may indeed take a bit more cpu. Many of the filter algorithms were renovated and improved for instance, but nothing that should bring a 2-3 year old cpu to its knees.
Do you have a PowerMac G4/G5 maybe? - I havn't used any in ages, I havn't got a clue as to how the latest algorithms perform there...
If you go back to 2.3 mode (right-click the value display on the top center), does that improve cpu usage?

Similar to what happens here on my system. In Reaper I might get 11-12% if I hold three keys on the Agemo patch. That same patch will put the cpu meter in Live anywhere between 45-75%.
I'm running Live 7.0.18
