I just upgraded to Jitter and had to download max/msp with Jitter. After that Max for Live didnt work so I downloaded the latest version (41439) and now none of the presets works. They all show up as broken in Ableton.
Makes me very unhappy.
Looks like the 41439 variant of Max for Live is designed for Ableton 8.1.1.... which isn't released yet.
Ex: when I try to load a "getting started" Help in Ableton 8.1 (for example Buffer Shuffler factory content .als) I get an error message telling me that the file can't be opened, because it was created with a newer version of Live.

Anyone have an idea what to do?

It seems to work for me. However, I am using 8.1.1b3. The first time I launched 8.1.1b3 after installing Max 5.1.1, it said it would update Max content and churned for awhile.

After that, I tried using 8.1 and the Max stuff worked there.

So here's a theory: Perhaps you have to use the 8.1.1 beta at least once in order to put the Max content into a usable state.

Here are the Max 5.1 release installer locations if you threw that file away. If you have not saved any of your own content in your Max5 folder - just delete that whole thing before you install the older version.

When you say here 'your Max5 folder' exactly which folders are you referring to on OSX?

Still got the same problem trying to open the tutorial set after trashing the max5 folder from applications & reinstalling using 5.1 with Live 8.1

As I replied in another thread, using the new 8.1 beta solved everything for me with M4L.

Thanks, reverting and uninstall / reinstall the package solved it for me (didn't want to go down the Live beta route)

(using mac osx) After uninstalling 5.1.1 and installing 5.1, no folders show up in my applications folder, therefore Ableton has no "Max path" to refer to. I can't use it at all unless I download 5.1.1....

Deleted and reinstalled livepack, no change. Presets are still "broken." Maybe I didn't delete everything? What exactly does it mean to "uninstall" a livepack?

REALLY disappointed by this, a fine how-do-you-do for something I already had my trepidations about buying. Fools and their money I guess...
