How to set up midi controller to use with all projects?

hi guys.
simple enough question. is there a way to set up universal midi assignments to your controller
which then attaches to each and every project you open up?
for example transport controls: map them and then open up an old project and you
can still press play and stop and they will work: you dont need to re-map for every project you have.
Does that make sense?
Thanks.

Open a fresh Ableton Live default set. Map the controls you want to use to your controller, careful ONLY to change the things that you want set every time you load Live. (if you want, you can even load your favorite sends or master channel fx. anything you want really) Then go to Preferences under File/Folder. Click on "Save Current Set as Template". You should be good to go any time you start a new live set

Is your midi controller supported under the Control Surface list? Most of those all have basic transport controls supported. If not you can either, figure out the CC#'s for the ones on the list, and mimic them on your controller, or look into "User Remote Scripts". These options allow a little extra versatility with your midi controller
I recommend this article as it can be applied to any midi controller:
