Firstly, Happy Holidays and all that crap.

Secondly, I've been thinking of treating myself to a nice, warm Christmas gift - and I want to get a new (maybe a couple?) VST effect unit, but I really don't know what's good out there. I have Uhbik from u-he, and I love it. I am also planning to get iZotope's Ozone-4, but I want to get something else, but I don't really know what to get. I'm satisfied with the Synthesizers I have (the Ableton Synths and Omnisphere).

So, I come to this forum that I love (and lurk) to ask fellow Ableton users what vst-effects they use in their productions, and if any of them could offer me their opinions on them, or even just a simple list of what they love to muck around with.

I want something that I can splurge around a hundred bucks on, maybe a little more (this is excluding the cost for Ozone-4, which is a hefty amount, but I'm feeling daring).

i'd actually get mastering plugs from www.voxengo.com instead of ozone.

Well, you are satisfied with the synths you have - but anyway, check out U-He ACE ....

Ozone is great, so are Voxengo plugins. Also Izotope Spectron is something nice and will give you interesting fx over a long time ... Virsyn also has some nice plugins (if you can live with syncrosoft - one of the major show stoppers IMHO).

what do you want the effects for?

for mastering, voxengo and ozone are good choice.

for sound mangling, not so much. better check out sugar bytes artillery, ohm force, fabfilter, etc. if thats what you're looking for

Android Bishop - I guess I should have mentioned what type of effects I am looking for. I think I may just go w/Ozone4 for mastering.

So, with that being said, I am looking for mangling, warping effects that can really alter a sound. I'll look into your suggestions.

Steff3 - I checked out U-he Ace (Never seen it before!) but it's not really something I want to get. I think if I were to get a synth from u-he, it would probably be the Zebra. I looked up youtube videos for Izotope Spectron, and I wasn't very keen on the 'sound' it was able to produce while mangling. Some of Virsyn's stuff looks really cool - so I'm definitely going to spend time workin' around with it.

Xcile - Thanks for the link! I think I might actually plop the money down for Ozone for mastering, but Focusrite looks like they have some good stuff.

For effects, I use almost exclusively Kore 2, Artillery and Effectrix. Not inlcuding reverb and distortion. Those are good to have a few of. For reverb I've got Aether, Reverberate, AudioMidi Breverb, Rayspace and Reaktor verbs. And Ohmicide and predatohm for distortion, as well as the free CamelCrusher. Everything else is from the Sugar Bytes effects or Kore. Kore is great for delay based things because you can route audio in all kinds of ways, create your own feedback chains etc.

For under a hundred dollars, I'm not sure, but if that Artillery half price sale is going on, you gotta go for that. Otherwise effectrix is close. And if you like reverb, Reverberate is a convolution verb for 30 pounds. Audiomidi breverb is 5 bucks and sounds great, low cpu.
