weird problem with patchmix (e-mu 1212m)

i'm having an issue with patchmix DSP on a 1212m card
when launching Live (v.8 using ASIO) the source is forced to 44khz, the default in Live, so i can't hear anything outside of Live
Winamp for example won't play anything, it just freezes, same with youtube videos and basically any sound
if i want to get the sound back, i have to shut down Live, go to patchmix and change the source back to 48
the thing is it doesn't matter if it's 44 or 48, both in patchmix and Live, i just have to change the setting that Live forces or launch a new session
this only happens in Windows 7 and probably Vista, i had no problem with it under XP
