Hi,

Since installing L8.1.1, I now get the Apple spinning beach ball of doom for about 5-7 seconds every time I start Live. The splash screen starts up fine and when the main screen appears I can use the mouse for about 1 second and then I get the beach ball for about 5-7 seconds. During this time I cannot do anything again and have to wait for that 5-7 seconds before I can start working with Live.

Actually, the total time from application launch to when I can work with live is probably the same as it ever was, about 18-20 seconds total. It's just in 8.1.1, it gives the impression of finishing start-up really quickly, but only gives me a second or so of usage before it goes back to complete the start up procedure with the beach ball.

Just a small quirk, but slightly annoying - happens each and every time I start Live.

Running MBP with OS X 10.6.2. After installing L8.1.1, I deleted preferences.cfg, deleted the template set and repaired permissions.

Still happens in L8.1.2b1 - annoying...

Also in L8.1.2b2 -

Same on L8.1.2b3 - more and more annoying...

i am experiencing the same exact problem.

8.1.1, osx 10.6.2, mac book pro.

Hi - I got a work-around solution from Ableton that I'm using until it's included in a fix. The reason is that at start-up, Live is searching for a MAX installation. So I just downloaded and installed the MAX demo from Cycling 74 and problem was fixed. When they fix it in an upcoming Live release, I'll delete the MAX demo again.

Give that a go, maybe it helps you...

edit: works! Thanks for the tip. Hopefully they fix this in the next release.

After installing MAX, try launching Live again and maybe that first time it will still be slow, but second time starting, it should be fast again.

Yeah, report back as to how it goes - would also be interesting to Ableton if this is the only cause of this symptom, or whether there's another bug somewhere...

Great to know that fixed it. I'll be keeping an eye out on the upcoming release change lists to see when the fix is included and can then delete the MAX installation...

Fixed! Just checked in 8.1.3b2 and it's safe now to remove the Max installation... cheers...
