DJing, APC 40 tips / tricks, plz help.

Post by GBDCrew » Fri Jan 01, 2010 6:34 pm

Hi,

I'm djing on ableton since two years, i like french touch electro / fidget house / trash, I usually work with UC 33e controler and it work very fine.
I use a typical 3 track built with :

- EQ.
- 2 filter on each track (LP / HP).
- beat repeat.
- pin pong.
- Infinity rise.
- auto cut (cuting sound between bass)

Two month ago, i bought a APC40 but i'm disapointed, i have some problem to assign all controle and have fast responce (use EQ on track one and beat repeat on track 2 for exemple).

Do you know some trick for APC 40 to have all effect accessible fast (i 'm fed up to change between bank etc...)

Thx, sorry for my badass english i'm french XD.

PS: i'm on OS X 10.6 so i couldn't use BOME :(

what i usually do with my apc when djing is i set the pan/senda/sendb/sendc lights to send c (i don't need three returns when djing, that's pretty overkill if you ask me) then i map the eight knobs to my extra eqs and such as if the apc were just a normal midi controller,

that way you get eight dedicated knobs to whatever you want since send c doesn't exist in my set.

if you needed pans and sends my suggestion would be to pick two tracks that you needed to pan and send and manually dedicate four of the eight knobs to them (while the light is set on sendc) that way you still get four extra knobs.

or you could just get another midi controller like the nanoKONTROL for your extra EQs but that's a less elegant approach than just using the apc, maybe. knobs definitely don't feel as good or have visual feedback.

Just remap some stuff over knobs you don't use on your apc. Or get another midi controller, i use the apc 40 in combination w/ behringer bcr 2000. I have the eq, gain from each track mapped on the bcr and the specific effects like looper beat cutter etc.. on the apc 40. It works really well for me because now i can use all effects etc.. at once without having to switch between them.

Beta 1.7 is the only way forwards for the APc as it allows multiple midi channels to be incoming and outgoing, you need this to fool the apc into thinking it's attached directly to ableton....

Send me a pm with your email address and i'll send you a template you can start with to see what you can get done....

As your using three tracks i though you should use the other tracks to host effects with dummy clips that way you can run your beatrepeats whilst twisting eq knobs...

anything suggested from s4racen should have a warning label:"COMPLICATED" :-)

no really, bomes takes a while to get into, but it will tripple the value of your apc and you will feel more like a true geek.

Only kidding, i realise in hindsight i should have made things a little more modular so people could pick or choose what elements they wanted to implement, trouble was as the APC was undocumented mostly eveything (and still now with Max4Live) is trial and error....

just re-map the "activator" "solo/cue" "recarm" as eq kill switches for "High" "Med" "Low"
