I've just got back from a voyage around other sequencers.... back to Logic for a bit, then a bit of time in Reaper-land...
And here I am once again. I just keep coming back. I can't make music without Live any more.

Abletons sequencer/piano roll editor is bar none the best around. I just had a heavy dose of Logic 9 over the holidays working with a good friend---And FUCK was it pissing me off. Love lots of other goodies within it, but the hell with sequence editing inside of it. It was like coming home to a warm fire with a bottle of brandy and a pot of vege' stew once I finally got to get back to the Abe' flow of things. It just makes sense.

yes indeed. I find Live's piano roll far easier than pretty much all the other ones I've used. I really like Logic for its scalability and depth (and for nostalgia), and Reaper for its audio features and routing, but overall Live wins.

i just started getting the hang of ableton (after a loooooooong time of dabling here and there with it) and I also love the midi editing. Particularly because its SIMPLE! Yes DP, Logic and Cubase can do anything under the sun to midi but 99% of the time I just want to quickly move notes around without having to think through menus and boxes.
here's to simplicity

wait...what?
ok, i must not understand something, because i am not fond of piano roll editing in Live. i almost hate it. i 'grew up' in Reason. then Logic. i love both of their piano rolls...
any tips? i really want to hold command and write a note, let go and be able to move the note.

I did the same thing a while back. Live just feels comfortable. Welcome back.

I know that feeling only too well. For me, it's normally Logic, Pro Tools (and a little Reason too sometimes), and then *BANG*, Live is back! Have to agree with everyone else here, the Piano Roll editor in Live is the best of any DAW, and as for...

It's the one thing about Logic I have always hated. It's truly awful and seems very sloppy next to Live.

this makes me curious.. do i miss some important hidden functions here? because for me the pianoroll editor in live is rather rudimentry and missing a lot of functions like overlap correction or elimination of doubled notes or showing exact event positions... all the keycommands
what is it you especially like in the ableton editor ? maybe i underestimate it?

I find that I'm getting much more stuff done in Logic using Live as a sidekick lately. Logics piano roll + event list is so awesome.
