Launchpad lights not lighting up when in user mode.

Hiya,
Just got one of these new lovely Launchpad doodads and we're having fun playing with it, however whilst in user2 mode when trying to assign a pad to the on/off of an Auto Filter the pad doesn't light up. Now I've seen on several videos that it lights up when people do exactly this. Also in the Mixer mode, when we try to assign the top 4 row buttons to various things it just stays green and doesn't change colour, then sometimes when flicking back from Mixer to user2 after just assigning some pads then those pads will stay dim green even when pressed. Has anyone had this problem? Anyone any ideas? Is this software or hardware issue maybe? We're not sure and can't find anyone else who's had this problem, so thought maybe to ask here.
