Say I have a one bar sample that has melodic and rhythmic content (like a sample from the chorus of a pop song for example). What I want to do is to be able to play the sound on my midi keyboard so that each key changes the pitch of the sample AND the sample stays in time regardless of pitch as it's being played in different pitches via the midi keyboard.

It seems to me that the only way to do this is to create, say, 12 copies of the sample as a clip in 12 different clip slots and assign midi control to each of the clips. I don't see how it's possible to do this using any of the samplers in Live 8. Am I missing something?

When you setup MIDI mapping for the sample, hold the lowest key you want and then the highest key. Turn on Legato for the sample in it's Clip Properties.

yea it is! I had forgotten about that feature...loads of fun. It's been awhile since I've done it, so it's possible my instructions are a little off. It is in the manual though.

Yes, you can do that in sampler. All you pretty much have to do it drop the sample in once and your good. See the manual for further detail. The only thing is about the pitch. It may start to sound weird once you get past one or two notes.

But the loops timing shifts along with the pitch per octave/key in Sampler, correct?

So if the range is C1 to C5, how do I tell it that I want C3 to be the root pitch?

C3 is actually already the default root key so your good brah. Enjoy!

I couldn't find it in the manual, but I think I figured out how to get it to work: hold down the key you want to be the root key, then, without letting that key go, hold down the lowest key in the range you want PLUS the highest key in the range you want. Seems to work, although sometimes might require 3 hands.

It really drives me crazy, I am pretty shocked that there isn't a timestretch option in Sampler.

Yeah---Timestretch option in Sampler has been a major request for a long time...Sure as hell would be pretty dope
