[Max] Help me to customize my launchpad's behaviour

Hi !
I just received my launchpad, bought it only for hacking it, since the default session mode don't satisfy me.
As I described it in this topic http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=133085 I want my LP to display alternated column color. Let's say red/green/red/green/red/green/red/green/

I don't really understand how the control surface works. I mean, I can't access to the midi data coming from the LP, excepted key presses. The only way I found is to disable the LP as a control surface, but simply use it as a remote. That way I can monitor and manipulate the midi from the LP. But this way, I no longer have the display of the filled or empty cells. Any ideas ?

Oh I think I just found the answer : choose maxMSP1 for the control surface's output instead of launchpad.

I am sure there is something I don't get.
Help ?
I put "max/MSP" in the title, to catch the eye of the programmers.

I managed to do it almost perfectly but without clip presence display. I give up, for today.
End of the monologue !

What are/were your final results? I'm manual mapping my LP and will do a clip control page next. I see only 3 or 4 values sent from mapped clips, 0,(not playing) 1(playing), 127 (looped play/1st play), and 126 (about to play). Basically no 'clip empty' or 'clip has data' indication like the native mode. Probably needs a MIDI Script to do this.
