need Help with Abes and setting up AUDIO 8 DJ as soundcard.

I have searched and tried everything at this point. I have an AUDIO 8 DJ that I would like to use as my sound card and I am running OSX 10.6.2 Leopard. After installing the latest Driver for the AUDIO 8 DJ and making the appropriate connection I am unable to select it as my "Driver Type" in Ableton 8.1.1 preferences. My only options are "No Audio" and "CoreAudio". Now... I can route audio to Audio Output 7/8 of AUDIO DJ8 but I Still am unable to choose the AUDIO 8 DJ in the "Driver Type" box. WHY? Anyone have any insight or suggestions? I am stumped.

have you tried going into the mac audio/midi set up in applications/utilities?

i have an AK1 which shows up in the midi devices cos of knob and buttons being midi assignable

you may have to configure something in there - i think i had to if i remember right

Yeah, Audio Midi setup allowed me to create an "aggregate output" but this still did not solve my problem.... Still no "AUDIO 8 DJ" listed in the Ableton Audio Preferences device list. It doesn't make any sense. Thank you for the suggestion tho!

No. I have checked NI and NI forums but to no avail. This has to be some type of OSX, NI, or Ableton Version problem. I have never encountered this before. Have been a MAc user and a an ableton user for over 5 years... I have no idea.

last idea is

go into your midi view of the audio midi set up...

can you see all of the icons for your midi devices ? sometimes 2 icons for the same device can show up - if so i think uninstall the driver - delete the midi devices from the midi set up and reinstall

infact - i just upgraded to snow leopard and there are 2 icons for my ak1 - not sure how it affects it at the moment as my ak1 is in another country

this once caused me a lot of problems trying to get live to find my remote zero sl wiht leopard - there were 2 icons for the controller and it did nt show up in ableton

Away from my studio... will try tomorrow. Thanks again for these suggestions. I'll post again tomorrow with my results. hopefully the outcome is positive!

I have been told that "coreAudio" handles all audio and drivers in the Mac OSX. Is this true? Seems weird but i guess that would be an explanation as to why my only options in Live's prefs is "CoreAudio" or "NoAudio". Still seems odd though.. taht I can't choose "AUDIO 8 DJ" as my "DeviceType". Anyone with a Mac experience this as well?

i also remember having a problem with setting things up as an aggregated output - but cant remember if that was when i owned a pc - not sure if you can set things up in a pc to have an aggregated output

do you know someone else with a mac that you can plug it into ?

faulty soundcard maybe ? take your lappie to the shop and ask to plug in another dj 8

I am able to use the Audio 8 card outputs but cannot use the audition feature in the browser if Abes 8. So the card works but the CoreAudio and Audio 8 just don't work well together due to the audition feature trying to use the "built In" soundcard even after the Audio 8 DJ has been selected as outputs. This is a shame...if this is actually the case.

huh?

the cue output - for cueing the files in the browser or cueing a track for dj-ing - you mean that ?

i know you have to cue off a different output than the one that is running to your monitors etc but i thought that you could nt select the adj8 in live preferences for use at all ?

im confused ?

I CAN select the ADJ8 only in the "Audio Outputs" and not the "Device Driver".... i assume that is because "Core Audio" handles my ADJ8 driver. So i choose ADJ8 outs 7/8 on master and my outputs work just fine... but when using the Ableton Live Browser to "preview or audition" files ( on the left of browser ) the file plays but no sound (because it is still trying to play though the "built In sound card.
