what are the best software vintage guitar fx for vintage fuzz and psychadelic sounds and character

also what's a good economical hardware recommendation for the same sound?

I know the sounds quite well and I'm already aware that it can't accurately be duplicated but what comes close in modern hardware and software?

i used to use boss efx too.. the distortions and digital delay
for analog delay i really want to get my hands on a ibanez AD 202

Most people don't like ilok bit the 1st thing that springs to mind is Line 6 Podfarm. Got it a while back, it was free if u had an ilok, $99 for the deluxe version (which I didn't get but maybe should ). It's strong suit is modeled effects (amps maybe not quite as well as Waves & IK but who's to say). All the classic guitar effects done really well though. Soundtoys bundle is the best but it's ilok & pricey, hands down the most hardware like software effects I've used though.

There are great affordable options too though. Maybe check out Puremagnetik's Amp Packs, esp. the 1st one. Lots of good distortion & phaser stuff. Live's phaser is not to be sniffed at. Also, someone posted a free livepack on the forum called TimeDesigner, it's pretty darn good. Tons of delay racks with different modulations and multitap delays. Can't believe it's not talked up more.

If ur looking at getting a whole amp sim I'd say Waves Gtr unless you don't do ilok. Then check out IK Multimedia's stuff, they've got some deal going and I like their Jimi Hendrix stuff. I don't have any experience with NI's Guitar Rig.

Also, a lava lamp and some grass wouldn't hurt. I mean, drugs are bad for you. Strictly for guitar tone.

Nothing sounds like speakers pushing air but for effects you can find some cool stuff.

Do u mean that little grey ibanez delay pedal with the tape/digital switch? That thing is badass and like $40! Loaned mine to a friend, never to be seen again. Except on his floor under piles of laundry and Taco Bell wrappers.

Big Muff on a send (with rechargable 9v)

line6 PODfarm. seriously.

for hardware:

the big muff pi (yes I know, that name still makes me giggle and i have had one for a decade)
a tube screamer peddle - tons of brands out there, I stick with Boss for stompboxs generally

Boss for distortion / overdrive. I have a modded DS-1 and a regular SD-2 Super Overdrive and they rock. The Analog chorus CE-1 is also cool. These things will survive a nuclear holocaust. I don't like the Boss Metal pedals as much though. Software emulations have gotten better but don't put the full character across convincingly.

I have a Zoom GFX digital unit and that is pretty good too, although it's speaker sims are less convincing than Guitar Rig/Amplitube/GTR3 etc. Previously, I had a Zoom 4040 analog FX unit with the expression pedal on the board, that thing was awesome for wah-wah, chorus, flange/phase but distortions were not quite so hot.

Electro-Harmonix - Big muff PI is one of the all time legendary overdrive units. Definately more of the classic rock era, it doesn't drive too hard but sounds cool nonetheless.

What do you think about the Mokafix fuzz emulations?
