I just wonder if this sync feature is just from a symbolic nature but was never intended to work anyway?


over the years i tried it some times and it was allways unusable..so as in the actual versions...

but i always thought that this was just temporarily missbehaviour..

But seeing the facts that live dont offers any timecode relevant functionality .. like an event lock to time.. what is pretty essential when you do sound to an movie...
i wonder if timecode sync wast really intended to work.. maybe the option is just there to look professional?

So question... Is anybode working with ableton live as timecode slave succesfully? and on which platform are you working than?

Once upon a time, before Live had video support, this drove me insane. I filed a bug report ages ago. For me the main problem was that tempo chances killed Live's ability to approximate where in a arrangement the playback head should be at a given time.

I actually wrote a Cocoa app that played back Quicktime files and sent out MTC so I could do film scoring with Live, only to find that it didn't work as soon as I used any tempo changes in Live. Kind of tricky to score without tempo changes, but I did score a short once all at the same tempo just so I could use the software I had spent so much time creating.

ups.. i wasnt even thinking about tempo changes yet.. i ve the problem that it dont even starts correctly... even better..each run it starts slightly differn.. in a range of a 16th note or so...

theese days the question is if this is related to certain setups or general behaviour of live..

i guess most live users never tried timcode sync anyway.. but they havent implemented midi timcode output..what is sad.. but why implementing timcode input than when it dont works?

wouldnt it be less cheating to the customer to disable such features totally up to the moment a real implementation is done with the necessary parameter set?

It eats my time when i try features that dont works.. and the people in my studio lose motivation when such things are happening...

SO in case nobody pops up here that can state that it at least works for some i would ask for removing any fake functionality.. to achive..

works fine on my machine, even through harsh tempo changes. MPC, JX305, Live, through BCR, SL25 or Edirol UA101 as the interface. computer is an HP DV8000.

I guess it's a Mac thing.

this is the guy who swore black & blue live 8 never crashed on him for days on end. Up until the 'quality' bombshell when coincidentally enough live started giving him trouble.

midi timecode? i am not talking about midi clock with song position pointer,, real timecode 25fps ..

this is working on pc´s? but not on macs?


anybody else that can confirm that? sorry tonedeft..but you ve really prooven a bit bug deft in the past..

so one less involved user to verify your statement would be nice

I had two incidences.

one where someone pointed out that dropping a VST on a GUI would crash Live, I proved that.

then a more legit one where a .als file became corrupt, I sent it to tech support, they sent it back corrected the next day.

heh, the second one coincidentally enough happened after the quality announcement - as I said. Dunno about your first claim, we'd need a forum sleuth like the hoffman2k to confirm.

anyways, my point is quite simple. You're full of shit, you lambasted folks with genuine stability problems for months on end with your bullshit claims that live8 operated perfectly. You should have just STFU instead of trolling folks irked by buggy software.

anyone would be a fool to believe your claims at this stage.

could you please stop to fil my hread with this useless bullshit? its not his or your bugs. its ableons bugs. and i like to find out if we have one here because its hard work to convince ableton about bugs because they cant reproduce them on theiere super computers..or maybe they just dont know what timecode is and how it should work?..

well the company ethos seems to be 'hey, what was it like in the seventies ? if we do it even marginally better than that then it's working perfect'

so maybe it's not a bug, but rather, conceptually you are an ingrate ?

i dont know about the 70´s but in the 80´s timecode was working perfectly on an atari computer..
i would expect a similar performance from 2010 setups.. dont needs to be better..just similar would be enough

anyways, the ableton rule of thumb is 'we don't have to deliver the product we advertise because in 1970 synths were huge, expensive, and we all recorded to tape' ... if that little mantra doesn't help you achieve zen might I suggest banging your head against a brick.

8.1 is definitely the most bloated version, it doesn't crash but I can't run as many tracks as I used to be able to, nor can I use 192kHz as often as I used to.



3phase - do the other clock modes work for you?
