I just upgraded to 8.1.1
I've had 5 crashes in the last 3 days.
Two while changing the sample rate in audio/midi prefs
One while changing the audio interface in audio/midi prefs
One after copying 3 clips and trying to paste them elsewhere
One when 4 midi notes were played simultaneously in dummy clips over the IAC driver

When you experience crashes, then please update to the latest version of Live and all the used plugins.
If the crashes still happen with the most recent versions installed, then please send us your log.txt and crash logs to
[email protected]
You find the log.txt here:
OSX: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live X.X/
OSX Users, please send use the whole crash reporter/diagnostic reports folder as zip
(right click on folder and "compress folder" to create a zip):
Tiger: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
Leopard: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
Snow Leopard: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/
On Windows the Log.txt is located here:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\"Your Username"\Application Data\Ableton\Live X.X\Preferences\
Windows Vista / Windows 7: C:\Users\"Your Username"\Appdata\Roaming\Ableton\Live X.X\Preferences\
Note that on some Windows systems the application data folder is hidden by default. Here is how to make it visible:
Windows XP/2000
1. Launch Explorer.
2. Select Tools/Folder Options/View.
3. Check "Show hidden files and folders."
Windows Vista/ Windows 7
1. Launch Explorer
2. Select Organize->Search- and Folder-Options->View
3. Check "Show hidden Files and Folders"
best,
dfi

You can also try deactivating your VST's just to test if one of the VST's is causing the software to crash. Obviously not a long term solution, but this should help you narrow down the cause of the issue.

YEs, having much the same problem. Seems to keep crashing and it hangs so I have to reboot.
Not the most stable release.
Hitting Ctrl-S more often but an update would be good.

I am new to Live but not new to music on computer
Running 8.1.1 and its crashing _all_ the time! When I change a preset or drop in a new rack, it crashes.
I feel like it crashes more because I upgraded to snow leopard.
Will a clean install fix this? What is the issue?? Its driving me crazy!

hey! thanks for helping out. It kind of did the trick but still had lots of crashing. So i just did a clean install (wanted to upgrade to snow leopard anyway). THAT did the trick in solving library and general issues
however, ableton is still not as snappy as I thought it would be. For instance things like drag and drop are slow and even using the mouse to adjust volume there is a visual lag. its like a sluggish operating system. I am running a mac pro 2x 2.66 dual core xeon w 12 gigs of ram and i usually have 3 vsts open and 2 drum kits... What gives?
I love the program so much its unfortunate that i am even on a forum complaining about it...
