Hey everyone
I was wondering if someone could help me figure how to use my akai mpd 24 to DJ. I've seen some live hip hop sets with DJ's that are doing it and I can't quite figure it out. It seems to me that they are triggering samples, but also individual sounds, as well as full tracks with the pads. How do I set up ableton to best perform this? I've also noticed that in tutorials for devices such as the APC 40, there appears to be a designated zone around a certain amount of scenes and clips that can moved around, allowing the controller to only control what is with in that zone - is this correct. how do I do that? I'm not sure if I'm making this clear. Can any one help me out. I dont even really know the vocab. Thanks a bunch.

It sounds like the pads are manually midi mapped to clips and/or scenes. Individual samples could also be coming an Impluse, Simpler or Drum Rack Instrument. The MPD24 doesn't come with a cool/useful control script like other controllers, that's why most everything would have to be midi mapped. If your looking to launch clips with a midi controller, I'd recommend the Novation Lauch Pad. But for now your best option is to midi map scenes/clips to the pads. Experiment and decide what mappings work best for your performance.
