Yo
The Bridge versus MsPinky for beatmatching and scratching?
Obvioulsy MsPinky gets deeper on the creative audio max patch mangling side, but could it also compete with Serato for "classic & old skool djing"

MsPinky's to me has latency and doesn't really feel like adequate vinyl control/emulation in comparison to say Serato. for basic mixing though, i think it works fine. any other intricate record movements gets lost in the translation. who knows what the Bridge will be like..

Thanks,
Does the latency has something to do with your soundcard drivers? Are you on Windows?

that's the sound card latency. I never felt the latency with Ms Pinky.
the thing I like about Ms Pinky is that you can take a clip in Live and freeze/flatten and whatever to it, that makes a .wav version of the clip show up in the 'processed' folder in the Lives set. point Ms Pinky to that folder and you can scratch a clip you just made.
I can't really comment on the Bridge because I'm completely unfamiliar with Traktor.

tested it on a friends setup but maybe someone can chime in on it that has more experience with it cuz I briefly only tested it.. the sensitivity of the control vinyl was like scratching on CDJ's.. it's good for basic rubs and baby scratches.. other than that, it felt really different from the feel of serato. could've been his set up though..

It must be his setup. Setting Ms Pinky up can be tricky because it depends a lot on the input signal level, which may vary a lot from setup to setup. Mine took a while to get right, but now I can scratch almost anything I can think of, and anything I can't is more likely due to my lack of skill than Ms Pinky being unresponsive.

I still haven't got Pinky to satisfy my the way others do.
To me it's not so much that it's less responsive, but more unpredictable with it's responses. I bought it hoping to use it in live Natively. Chances are I will stick with Traktor, unless I give in to Serato.

I got Ms Pinky recently and have to say that I'm not finding there to be noticeable latency (although I haven't tried it with any other audio interfaces) and it tracks the vinyl really well. Like others have said though, it did take a bit of tweaking to get working as I expected it to.

good to hear someone has had a good experience with it.. but were you using ms pinky as standalone or within Ableton using the pinky vst? I still don't know if it was his setup though.. signal level seemed fine and he had Ortofon Scratch concordes so I know it wasn't the needles.. at least I don't think.. maybe I'll go play with it again.. but i am really hoping this serato/ableton collabo will work.. I use both so it's free to me but if the vinyl emulation doesn't work out with that, then maybe I'll give Ms Pinky another try.. it's not bad for $100..
whatever happened to AMMOBOX? anyone remember that guy?

Ms Pinky delay will not have anything to do with the needles.
the vinyl plays a tone (2 1200Hz sine waves 90' out of phase) and the software decodes that tone to see which direction the platter is spinning and how fast.
there are two determining factors, the sound card and the detection software. I really doubt any of the software apps take a millisecond to process the audio and any delay under a millisecond is undetectable. it's the usual suspects, the sound card, sample rate, and audio buffer size.
I think the Ammobox guy exploded. he put massive amounts of work into Ammoboz, got it mostly working then he tried to find others he could pay to finish it for him. he also tried to sell it (a Reaktor plug in) to Ableton for use in Live but Ableton never replied. that had to suck for him, he thought it would sell. crazy smart guy but I think he just ran out of steam and work took over.

I use vinyl for scratching only. So I decided to get Ms Pinky a few moths ago instead of waiting for The Bridge.
Now, I`m very glad I did..
Ms Pinky is GREAT

And there is no need for something "better"..

I'm scratching with MsPinky (even using 3rd gen vinyl with no problems) with AK1 card.
Works fine as Mspinky VST within Live. using the crossfader on Nocturn for cuts,
(otherwise I sometimes route that channel out of a sep out into my scratch mixer)
If I use Nocturn's fader, then within Live, I route the channel to another one, which allows me to exploit Live's effects, looper, sends etc.

I have Ms. Pinky and maxforlive patch. It is simple not so featured as "The Bridge" and it is open for free develops on mfl users.
In the other side maxipatch AO has OSC/midi and a lot of features. It is maxmsp based and as a concerns of stability is like mfl more or less (not so close, not so dependant in a crash scenario).
If you have money and don't want to experiment go for "Bridge".
If you love freedom and community sharings go for "her" (she is very lovely).
That's all.

They're also used for two completely different things. In fact as far as turntable manipulation and Ableton Live together, Ms.Pinky and the bridge have completely opposite uses.
The bridge lets you control an entire sets transport control with a record, so in effect treating the whole set as one record in Serato, while also being able to fire/stop clips in Serato. Or capture serato performances and open in Ableton. Ms.Pinky on the other hand lets you use a single track in Ableton as a record. The vinyl sends a signal to an audio plug-in that holds the samples to be manipulated. The great thing about this is that it works perfect for a scenario where you have a live set and want to scratch certain samples in it, and be able to save that setup. Before you had to remeber what record to throw on and route your mixer into Ableton. now you can actually save the samples within the set in Ableton. Also, if you use the Ableton crossfader, you can actually edit your cuts.
