when i setup a midi clip for recording by default it loops through one bar while i play, which i can change to however many i want. but when i come up with an idea i usually have no clue how many bars its going to end up being unless i think about it for a minute. so i end up having to either figure out about how many bars its going to be before recording (which is annoying and gets in the way of my idea), or set the clip length to some ridiculous value and trim it down afterwards (which just seems like more work then i should have to do). how can i set the clip to keep on recording until i hit the stop button, regardless of how many bars?

just set live playing, click on an empty clip, start playin your keyboard
live will start recording a new clip and wont stop till you hit stop
no need to set clip length
set your loop locators round whichever of your takes was the best one

How do you usually make your clips? Do you double click a slot to create it and then change length?

Normally if I want to record something, I will hit one of the circles on the grid (record buttons) and then just play and play and play while the new clip is recording. Then when I'm done, I hit play (or enter) on the clip again and it will start looping. A bit of symmetry helps too though

yea ive just been double clicking on the clip slot. i knew there was some retarded easy way to do it without having to change the clip length each time.
