If so when did it become obvious that it was time to get one? Feel I could do with one just not 100% why?! Have hardware compressors pre amps and reverbs, about 4 synths (2 desk top and 2 rack mount) I know its boring but any advice

If you have a lot of gear that is more or less permanently connected to a hardware mixer (or a multi channel soundcard) but you want the flexibility to patch in an external effect processor, instrument, amp, etc without having to rummage around in all those cables and without constantly unplugging and replugging cables, getting totally confused and slowly turning your wiring into an impenetrable knot of interwoven cables.
Then it is time to get a patch bay.

Behringer makes a pretty cheap one, something like $40. I own one and although cheap, never heard any sound degradation.

I have tried both and the neutrik is my choice.

I was planning to sell this one on ebay. I don't need it any more. I've also got about 40 mono patch leads of various colours I was planning to include in the sale.
It's all yours for the postage plus a large drink if you want to make me an offer. But if you are outside the UK it's probably worth less than the postage would cost.

i inherited a furman patchbay and its the smartest thing in my studio. I don't have to run 9 million cables across my room just to plug 1 synth into a compressor. Its all right there, on the patchbay. Want another synth through a delay- done. Ableton's output 3-4 to the compressor and then back into Live DONE!
so wonderful in terms of streamlining everything!

i bought a neutrik and hooked it all up. everything sounds exactly the same as if i hadn't run it through the patchbay.
i recently bought a 2nd one because i plan on getting a few more pieces of outboard gear and i want to hook it all up just once.

Couldn't live without my patchbay. I like being able to route all signals in my studio easily without having to crawl behind the racks to patch stuff together.

Hi Russ, PM me with a reasonable offer. Let me know if you want the patch leads as well (29 * 0.5M mono, 12 * 0.25M mono, 2 * 0.25M stereo).
