Midi Channels

Hi, I haven't posted here for a while, I'm getting ready to going live with my music, so I really wanted to ask, how do I get several different VST setups on different Midi Channels, and so that I don't need to re-arm each channel every time I switch to a different midi channel?

If that's not possible, Ableton Live is not really live, now is it?

Hi,

you can set the Midi input source in the Midi track´s "Midi From" section. There you can select a midi port and a midi input channel for each track.

Best,
Jörg

Hi, I set it to receive messages from different channels on each track, yes. But it seems like there's something wrong with it, it doesn't put out any sounds unless I bring up the re-arm button to the right track. Also seems like it gets even worse? I'm not quite sure what's happening there.

I am really hoping Ableton Live is good for actual Live (DJing is not the live I'm talking about, I'm talking about setting up several midi channels with the proper patches/effects in each one of them and when I play (Yes, play... LIVE) one section of the song, and I need to switch to another sound I just switch to a different channel.

Would greatly appreciate any help ;) thanks.

You HAVE to have the arm button on if you want sounds to come out.

If you're using Live 8 you can right click the arm button and set exclusive mode which allows for multiple arm buttons to be selected.

If you're on an earlier version hold Ctrl (or CMD) down while arming tracks, you can select more than one.

Once you have all your tracks armed, cycling through different MIDI channels on your controller will select different instruments.
