Shortcut for Activate/Deactivate clip(s)

Hi

Technical question

I'd love a reliable keyboard shortcut for "Activate/Deactivate Clip" but it only works if I do another shortcut in the edit menu just prior. Or sometimes it works without this but only intermittantly. Maybe it's something to do with the actual shortcut displayed in the menu as being "Activate clips(s)" or "Deactivate Clips(s)" which are the ones that work if itemized in the System Preference keyboard shortcuts. Is this an OS bug or a Live bug?

And while we're at it please call it "Mute" and
assign "m" to it. But pleeaaase let us have custom
keyboard shortcuts.

Mute and unmute is a frequently used function. I have tried to get a shortcut to work via the apple prefs but it's flakey because the menu item changes it's name depending on the state of the highlighted clip. Anyone got this to work? I know about the right click option but it's clumsy.

There is no keyboard shortcut? I was just about to ask the same question. You've got to be kidding. The arrangement setup really needs an overhaul. Keyboard shortcuts for common editing tasks!

I also tried to set it up in the OSX system preferences, but it was unreliable. I wish they added this.

Well, it's a shame that you can't edit shortcuts. However, there is a workaround for this:
i've done it with autohotkey. When i press shift+D on my computerkeyboard, the mouse moves to the deactivate button, makes a click, and moves back to he middle of the screen. I've also done this with the envelope-window. It works really great. On mac you can useosculator to achieve this.
So basically you can program whatever shortcuts you want. I've also added a faster shortcut for showing the browser and the clip-window, i/o, returns/sends. Makes working really faster.
Still, abes should implement a shortcut-edit function in an live 8 update, not live 9!
Cheers

if you want to deactivate a clip..
map to the clips' power button..(downstairs ..in the 'detail view')
mind you ..it'll work only for the currently selected clip

Ever tried that?

Does not seem to be accessible to neither key map nor midi map. It istn't higlighted and clicking on it doesn't add a line into the mapping editor.

Good shout.

OT I'd really like to have a shortcut for the headphone/listen button in the midi piano roll editor. Maddening having to turn that thing on and off w/o a shortkey. I've always thought it strange that there isn't one already, seems so obvious. Anyhoo...
