need advanced help with outputs / Battery

Post by drb » Tue Feb 02, 2010 5:01 am

I gets my audio returns on a few different tracks for different processing.
I can set these up each time, but it would be nice to be able to drag in an instrument rack, or just a group of regular tracks that are just audio from Batteries different outputs, preassigned as I like.

The way it is now, I have no way to decide later to add Battery without manually having to do this setup.

Possible? I can't see a way.

i have presets for reason, saved in the live browser as external instrument device presets...

i would think it could be done similarly, but i don't use battery so am unsure of the specifics

I can see how to can have an ext instrumet that is for one output, but can you somehow use multiple outs of Reason that way?

Much appreciated. Will download now and see what you are doing.

Hmm, it says I need a newer version. (I'm on 8.10)
Do you by chance have a slightly older version of these files?

Nonetheless, as an ALS file, I don't see how you csn drag these into an existing set. It's not like regular parts you can drag in.

sorry, 8.1.1 here.

sure you can drag and drop groups/instrument- and audiotracks from the library to session view and back.

but anyway, a short how to:

1-insert battery
2- right click and group the track
3- this batterytrack is the mastertrack, as long as you don't assign addditonal outputs to battery: this is, where all the noise comes from
4- insert an external instrument in the same group
5- select "Battery" in this external instrument under "MIDI To"
6- select "B3 st 3/4..." under "Audio From"
7- repeat 4 to 6 for additional outs
8- when you're done, drag the group to the template folder in the live library or to any folder of your liking
9- create a new live set
10- drag the battery group from the library to session view
11- enjoy

This is where I have a problem. All the rest works great, but I can't drag a group to the browser.
The little symbol tell me it's not allowed if I try to drag while the tab is on devices.
If the tab is on the 1/2/3 regular files, it saves as ALS files, which can't be dragged in to my existing project.

yes. als files can be dragged into existing sets! drag them into the blank drop area and they will create new tracks

it is understandable that you can't drag them into the special ableton devices tab. but you can probably force them to be in there if you navigate to that same folder in the 1,2,3 tabs... however, the .als files may not be displayed in the devices tab. (special)

if not, just make a special folder and bookmark it

Tried it last night and it worked like a charm. Thanks Mother and Longjohns.
