problems recording in playing in real-time

Hello.
I'm a big fan of Live4.
I'm really enjoying this real-time crazy software.
But since it's too real-time, I have couple of problems here.
If there is anything that I can do to prevent this, please help.
It's very serious.
First of all, allow me to show you the setup of my system.
*Powerbook G4 CPU1.5GHZ 2GBMB OS10.3.5
*Ableton Live4.0.4
*MOTU 828mk2 (connected on my FW400 of the G4)
*LogitecHD 250GB 7200rpm (connected on my FW800 of the G4)
Problems
* When I'm draging 7 songs, which lenghs are about 4 minutes each, into the Live4 in real-time,
the D lamp flashes and the sound will be interrupted with a silence.
I guess my 7200rpm hard disk wasn't fast enough.
I'm also resampling and recording the whole master outputs into a single track of the Live4, simultainiously.
Is this too much to ask for Live4 ?
The soulutions I have found so far is
*Use the RAM to play it (I reall don't want to press the RAM each time I improvise on music)
*Play and record in mono. (Do I have to edit streo-to-mono and save it everytime I want to play the track ? Is there a Device or a setup for this ?)
*Don't drag so many clips which contains long lenths of data in real-time.
*Set the Warp marks on every clips, and set them on the Live Set and save it before playing.
*I'm over-dubing the clips using the new routing system of the Live4.
Whenever I record from a track, it always end up recording in stereo, although the original clip is playing in mono.
Track A (playing a clip in mono) --- Track B (audio from Track A, and recording it. It ends up recording in Stereo.)
I want to record in mono so that I could save the hard disk from generating the silence.
I do not want to be muted while I'm playing on the stage.
But since my system requires over-dubbing in real-time, I cannot record in mono using the new routing system of the Live4.
Questons
*Is there a Device, or a set up that can always record in mono in real-time ??
*Is there any other way to prevent the Live from muting ?? Anyway to save the hard disk's power ?
Or to prevent the Live4 flashing the D lamp ? Yes, I would like to always play and record in stereo.
*Or is this common on OSX ?This some time happens with D lamp NOT flashing. Is there a problem using MOTU, FW800HD and LIVE4 at the sametime?
Thank you for your time.
