I don't get it. How could something be off topic in a General forum? There's already a Tips and Tricks and a Support Corner. So why a General and a Lounge?

Isn't is clear? The Lounge is where you come to post when you're all tuckered out from posting in General.

I wonder if it would be possible to derail further development of Live by flooding General with OT posts until they have to devote full resources to moving OT posts to the Lounge? Hmmmm, I smell a coup!

for more undestanding and comprehension, "the lounge" shoul be renamed "the moshpit", or "the dumb place", or "Catharsis".

This sort of breaking up of a forum is usually the first step on the way to heavier moderation. Ive seen it happen before.
I know the Abes are between a rock and a hard place here, they want to provide a clean safe front page, but they also dont want to alienate the freedom of their older users.
Im not sure those two things are ultimately compatible in the same forum, as the wowsers never stop complaining about things that offend them, and are never satisfied. This is usually only the start. I hope im wrong though!

I don't think they just did it because a lot of us have been asking, I think something necessitated this.
I think they might be facing some serious image/PR problems and this is one reaction. I also think it's pretty poorly implemented so far - seriously, how long does it take to append short descriptions to your forum categories?

The general section will end up dying. The only thing that people post are questions about how to do something and the common answer is RTFM. They should start a sticky that says "Before posting, RTFM!" lol

i reckon general means general discussion about live, which is not a tip, trick, or bug
like why it's sound engine is so inferior, etc.
