Ok fellows,

here is THE thread to compete with each other, measuring how much gearSluts we are.

To enter the competition you just have to share the most stupid gearslut purchase you ever made, and, it's better if it costed you lots of $$$. (15$ deals are not allowed in this competition)

It's much better if you precise if you did or didn't try / demoed the stuff before purchasing it.

You should also input the (horribly high) prices you paid, and the money you lost if you re-sold it.

Be aware that there is NOTHING to win here, you gearsluts

just our absolute admiration as our new GEARLUST MASTER.

Get ready,

GO!!!!

Ok,

I purchased a mackie control C4 pro for 375 euros January the 21st, have installed it last weekend, and I'm shipping it back tomorrow. I'll lose approx 20euros for the shipping costs. Totally useless purchase. (it's unusable with ableton live, a bcR would be much better and cheaper)

and

Today I just ordered something really MUCH MORE expensive (but I'm sure it will be more useful), a Maschine, for 559 euros at Thomann's.

:|

I'm sure you next competitors will rise the competition at a much more higher level, won't you???

Cheers

Don't be shy : I'm sure you already bought something more useless, more pricey, more ridiculous, as we've all done, but the shame prevents you from being totally honest.
I've bought lots of music gear (guitars, synths, guimbardes,...) thinking I would be one of the most influential artist of my time, but I haven't reached that goal yet.
The most pricey stuff I bought was an ensoniq asr10 rack with 2 Mo of RAM. I paid about 17000 francs (about 2300€) around '93. Hadn't tried it before. It was supposed to be sold with all the options but I found that the shop that sold it to me had taken back the digital interface. I'm probably the guy who bought the most expensive item of this otherwise pretty fat sounding sampler.

do you mean you think I have something really bigger that I could have thrown in this contest?

I don't see what, yes, I've done other silly purchases (nocturn, big big flightcase, cheap softwares...), but none were reaching more than 200 euros... so the mackie C4 is my dumbest one, especially if you take into consideration that I kept it only 1 week  )

cheers

An MC-505 that I used maybe twice. I paid around $700, got rid of it for $300.

I bought a Roland Fantom, which I later realised was just a keyboard with a bit of rompler chucked in for good measure.
SOLD IT

Oh, also a Nord Lead II, which I later realised was just a VST in a red box.
SOLD IT

Yamaha A4000... I demoed it 10 years ago and spent more than 1000 Euros (Which was a LOT of money back in tha days) on it plus money for an external scsi drive, though the dealer said software samplers are on their way...

It's still in my shelve... never actually used this. Thinking about this purchase makes me angry about myself even after ten years time

Don't wanna even think about how much money I would need to pay someone to take it nowadays :( ...

Bought a yamaha tyros back in 2003 for around $2800.00. I wanted a good workstation keyboard. Just got rid of it last week for trade-for-cash through Musician's Friend for $725.00 (instore credit). To add to this, a boss DR-880 drum machine was in that trade as well.

hardly played it- was touring for a year and it was in the case at home.
sold it to help buy a condo...
which is currently worth 75k less than i'm now paying. yay economics.
but i do have a studio room at least...
