Manchester/Leeds, UK?

I may be moving to Manchester or Leeds later this year. Can anyone give me a heads-up on the club scene and Ableton user groups in these areas?

Many thanks,
Crabbit

I have lived in both those cities (Currently in good old manc), and to be honest, the club scene in Leeds sucks balls (although I hear there's starting to be a bit more dubstep from a DJ mate of mine, and there's some decent DnB going down sometimes, check out Radio Frequency for that kind of stuff, they promote a lot of it), there's only like 2~3 proper clubs. Leeds => Indie music.

Manchester, on the other hand, is pretty damn good for the larger clubs: warehouse project, sankys and a bunch of others, most of the big stuff is advertised all over the place, so it's just a case of spotting an ad for someone you like and grabbing tickets if possible :D

As far as Ableton user groups go, if you find one, let me know ;) There was talk of a Manchester gathering a while back on here, but nothing came of it (as far as I know !)

Haha, you know what they say: If you really want to be part of a scene that doesn't exist, go out and make one ;)

My clubbing days are over, but I would love to be involved in some Manchester based user group

I wonder what the easiest way to start a user group would be? Do people use facebook as an organisational tool. Personally I hate FB, but I might be tempted to sign up again for something like this.

I dunno: I'd think it would be easiest to do through here, given that most people who use Live will be on here too, but not many people seem to check out the Local forum very often!

Well let's start something. I'd be up for a small meet in town, maybe a beer or two somewhere we can use laptops. Something in April perhaps? Who's in?

Does the OP mind us using this thread, or shall I start a new one?

Probably worth starting a new one mate, or necro on the old one

I tried pushing for a Manchester meetup on the last Ableton Manchester thread and no-one replied and it died :(

Yeah, I don't think many people are actually too arsed, and there don't seem to be many people actually in Manchester to start with.

Oh, and while people are looking at this, does anyone know where the *fudge* there's a decent record shop in the middle of town?!

I went in on saturday to try and find some Umek, Kaskade and a couple of other random non-HMVable artists, and couldn't find any *anywhere*!

I'm too used to just buying off BeatPort all the time I thin, dunno where to get good stuff from anymore.

They're all in the same part of town. Head for Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter. You'll find Fat City, Piccadilly Records, Vinyl Exchange, Eastern Bloc and others.

Regarding a meet, like I said I'm up for it. It doesn't have to be anything big or fancy.

Yeah, I tried Vinyl Exchange (great for dodgy promos ;) ) and Eastern Bloc (Vinyl-only though, and I don't have turntables here), no luck there. Apparently EB stopped stocking Umek a few years ago. Might give those other two a blast at lunch tomorrow. Or just use BeatPort :D

I'd be up for a beer-related expedition somewhere, if we can get a few people on it.

Piccadilly Records is a great store. Worth a shot.
