Their new one is really good. Esp. like the track "Run".
I listened to it last night for the first time and I'm really disappointed. Maybe it will grow on me, but it doesn't seem likely. I love DAWs and sequencing, but they did it wrong. Their first album is totally brilliant though. That thing is going to have the lifespan of a Simon & Garfunkle record.
Yeah I can't really disagree, mainly like the one song really. It's happy bouncy music, kinda unique in that way so I could see people enjoying it as a summer record kinda thing. I haven't been rocking it since I got it though, been listening to Scott Walker's Scott 4 so that shows ya where I'm at in terms of hipness.

A buddy told me a ton of bands have records coming out this year; LCD Soundsystem, Arcade Fire, maybe Radiohead at the end of the year. He mentioned a few others but I forgot who.

Nice thread guys, I'm definitely going to check some of these out. Thanks.

Toss up between Jon Hopkin's "Insides" and Prefuse 73's "Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian".

whateves, they're both my favorite current artists.

Having a second listen now to Contra, and I'm liking it a little better.... likely because my girlfriend is hearing for the first time and she likes it.

I hope the new LCD is good. It'll be awesome if James Murphy can crank out another quality album.

More VW Contra commentary (even though it's a 2010 release... sorry...) I'm listening to the free remix CD that came with the vinyl now. While not great, it's a pretty fun 3 song disc with remixes that draw from the entire album. Very Abletony and fun. Done by someone named Toy Selectah.

Also, as far as 2009 goes, the French band Pheonix made my favorite album of that year, Wolfgang Amadeus Pheonix. I lourve it!
