alot of latency

im totally new at ableton so bear with me plz..
i have my guitar hooked up to my pc threw the mic port on my soundcard, when i press record to play along with some tracks or whatever, theres about a 1 second delay on what im playing on the guitar. is this normal ? what should i do :\
im using a windows pc, xp pro sp2, 512 ram , athlon xp 1600+ , 200gb hd
any help would be greatly appreciated. :wink:

Check which soundcard driver you are using?
In Live head to: Options -> Preferences -> ... Driver Type

With the amount latency you've described is sounds as though you are using a Windows MME driver which is not ideal.

Inspect which options are available to you using the Drive Type drop down list ...

Configuration of your audio settings are covered in the Live4 Chapter 5, page 27 onward.

IF your soundcard doesn't have ASIO support I'd highly recommend purchasing one that does for reliable performance. A simple entry-level musician-grade soundlike like an Echo MIA MIDI or M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI card will work fine (if you're on a desktop) and are inexpensive and will give you low latency performance.
