Managing Live's Library - Pls Tell Me I'm Missing Something!

The truth is, I find the default Library structure of Live to be atrocious. I've worked with it for years, let it be, never messing with it, so upgrades go as smooth as possible. But the facts are that the organizational system is all over the map: I can find a rack somewhere at a dozen levels, samples categorized in ways I can't even begin to understand, in places that don't make sense, etc, etc.
I decided to take the plunge and organize the library the way I think makes sense. I knew ahead of time that this would break a lot of links, but I got the impression from the manual that a rescan and save would be a breeze. From the manual: "If Live finds one candidate for the missing file, it considers the problem solved".
WTF?? Now that I have done this, I go into the file management section of Live, and find out that although Live has found one candidate only for each of my broken links, it's not as simple as hitting "OK". In fact, it seems that I must manually drag and drop or point Live to each file ONE BY ONE.
Are you kidding me?? There are something like 6000 broken links, individually this will take a frickkin month, let alone the fact that Live bogs down and has to "think" for 45 seconds for every link I reestablish. Am I missing something, or is this the only way to fix file problems?
If this is the case, then it makes sense that I NEVER messed with Live's library structure before, and if this is the case, I think it SUCKS that Live makes it so difficult to have your own library structure - after all that freedom is at the heart of personal computing.
