Basically I want to record just the left or right signal of an instrument track to audio so I then have a mono signal that I can pan hard left and right.

In other words, I have some chords I want to spread hard left and right and I don't want to spread the stereo signal to avoid the "big mono" affect that comes from spreading a stereo signal.

the Utility plug in has a Spread setting. 0% is mono, 200% means it passes to the right output only the parts of the signal unique to the right channel, same for the left. handy little plug in.
