so far i was just trying out the max/msp demo since there is no working m4l demo. i found some really cool externals (like granular devices) and made them work with my demo.
no i would love to buy m4l. as far as i am concerned this is not a max standalone version so my question is if externals also work in m4l. or would i have to buy the standalone version?

Yes they work just fine, I use several externals regularly.

as i said, i have no experiences with maxforlive at all. i dont know any database for externals at all, but if you google it you'll find some of them here and there.
