Hey there,

I don't know how familiar you guys are with me and my work, but I'm an independent electronic musician from Toronto, Canada and I've been making my living exclusively from music for six or seven years. I have produced several albums, a grip of singles and remixes under several aliases and I tour all over North America, Australia, Europe/UK, and occasionally Asia doing shows and presenting this master class workshop I've prepared and honed over the years. It's about how to finish a song in a day, how to structure your time and workflow in the studio, how to get fans, get your music out, etc. etc... Learning from someone who is a practicing and successful musician, and learning the conceptual framework vs. technical details have proven to have a very wide appeal, and the workshops are quite successful.

I've taught a few thousand people all over the world and have yet to be taken up on my money back guarantee. I typically get anywhere from about 30-100 people at the classes and charge $50/person.

Anyway, I am in the middle of applying for a US work visa and I need to have at least one contracted gig every 30 days or else my visa gets terminated and then I have to reapply... Kind of irritating to be honest as it is very very difficult for me to get promoters to work more than one year in advance.

...sooooo I was thinking that if I could work out some kind of arrangement where I come down to do a guest lecture every now and then we could a: make money, and b: I could have a much more workable arrangement with the visa situation.

I need to sort this out relatively soon I'm afraid, and I am perusing other opportunities, but I think that us working together would be a mutually beneficial arrangement so maybe I could call you in a bit and we could work something out. I often get asked about more structured ableton education by students at the workshop too. If we had some kind of partnership I can guarantee to generate a ton of business for you guys even when I'm not doing guest workshops.

Do you have any snippets of video that cover some of your presentation stuff?

yes i do, but they are highly sensitive so they're not online. they are also uncompressed (i am working on an online course to go with my next double album for the summer).

i can maybe send you one via dropbox, but it's a 4+ hour presentation so the logistics are kind of hairy...

I was thinking of just some short clips to see what it was all about. I would certainly be interested in trying to get you into the Greater Houston area. I am also working on getting the user group going down here so, obviously your material is of interest.

Sounds like something that would be perfect for Robot Speak in SF. They are their patrons eat this type stuff up. I personally don't have any contacts there but Tone Deft might be able to help you out.

I checked out both these places when I was thinking about higher education in music, and although pricey, they seemed as legit as you can get with music certification/degree programs. So I'd say they are good recommendations.
