Launching scenes on top of recording

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I've looked everywhere without success.
My problem is simple. When I have made a recording and want to add something to it by recording again (or listening to it with a new added sound), on top of the old recording, all is well when I just press individual clips to record onto the old. However... if I launch a complete scene it always plays the complete scene (horizontal row), even the ones that are empty, without letting me hear my old recording from those tracks (vertical rows). Is there any way to solve this, or am I supposed to only use "launch scene button" when I want to record over all tracks, even those already recorded on? I reckon there should be a solution to this, since I don't think I have to have lighting fast fingers in order to operate things smoothly (right now I have to press lots of clips at once).
Would be thankful for a reply,
Samsu
