so i had to google WTF curling was.. that's a sport? the swedish team must be hot for you to keep watching.. i think i can be one of the sweepers in front of the disc.. how hard can that be?

it's a game of finesse and strategy. the effects of the ice changes the movement of the stones, and you have to be very consistent with the weight you throw. it's like having to guess the velocity that will play what you want when some force is modulating it differently depending on which way you're facing... or something, anyways, it's not easy, and they're very good

I almost posted something about this but was sure there'd be zero interest...

was waiting at a BBQ place where they had it on TV, Germany vs. US, and became transfixed.

The US woman built a wall of stones around the center, and then the German woman, older, busted the wall, which the commentators seemed to think was a wasted shot that she'd regret. But the US woman then overshot her mark, after that the German was up again. She had this super-fierce concentrated look for all the world like an avenging Valkyrie and in slooooow motion put that freakin stone right gotdamn in the center, almost (but just almost) rendering my BBQ an anticlimax.

FFS. All I know is that curling has been going on for hours upon hours and days upon days. Jesus. It's neverending. I turn on the TV this afternoon to hopefully catch some Skeleton, and....wow....more curling.
