CPU usage wrong?

Live shows my CPU usage as around about 60% of that indicated by Windows itself. What's the score?

It's the percentage LIVE uses on its own. It doesn't calculate CPU usage for your whole system. You've got the taskmanager for that

If you run a earlier release than 4.03-4.04 (i think both got this now..), the affinity isn't set to one of the CPUs, if your'e using a HT-computer. Then you have to set the affinity manually, from task manager-process-right-click the Live-process, and select affinity to ONE of the cpu's (unhook one of them) - In 4.03-4.04 this is fixed, so when launching, the affinity autoselect one of the CPUs. Big improvement; the cpu-usage in Live will drop pretty much and run smoother, due to the GUI-problem on earlier releases..
This prevent the CPU-meter from tipping over & acting "funny" with dropouts & cracles when it reach around 80%; the Live-engine is pretty much destressed by this fix & can handle much more..
But this is only if you use a HT-computer!
Best,
Jo

Actually no, the CPU usage of Live in Task Manager is approx 30% higher than that shown by Live itself, not the overall usage.

In fact is nearer to double than +30%....c'mon Abletons, are you listening?

use the system one instead. what's the issue?

The issue einstein is that ableton 4.04 runs out of cpu cycles twice as fast as it used to in 3.x, 2.x etc

not over here it doesn't. over here it's maybe 15% more efficient.

windows is also reporting cpu usage of Video rendering in Live.
Live's cpu meter only reports Audio Engine cpu usage.
it has been discussed many times in the general section of the forum.

I'm sure it has been discussed to death, however, I do not expect video rendering of Live to increase the CPU usage of the program from 30%-60% for example. There is an issue here on my pc that was not present in Live 3.x

you're right, please test using the following schema :

and report it to this thread

I'll test this later, but interesting to note that you are also using a Firewire Audiophile, like me.
