Getting rid of deleted AU's in the library

Hey guys,

I deleted some plugins from my Macbook Pro's HD (snow leopard), but they still appear in Abletons library. I think I've deleted all files because when I select a plugin the message "failed to create the AU. This AU could not be opened" pops up. So it should be just a folder thing, however I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

The weird thing is that the VST folder is ok; it's just the AU folder.

Thanks for your help on this.

Best, Paul

im not sure if this is the solution to your problem but AU 's can be located in 2 places .. you probably know that but ....

machd/user/yourusername/library/audio/plugins/components/AU

and

machd/library/audio/plugins/components/AU

maybe you have them stored in both places somehow

Thanks for your reply. That is how I meant it actually :)
I'd already checked those folders indeed, no components there..

right click on the au in the browser and select "show in finder" from the drop down menu

Ok, problem solved. I don't know exactly how I did it, but my guess is that after I deleted the files and clicked them to open in Ableton (giving me the "failed to create AU" message), Ableton picked up that they are not there.

After rebooting my Mac they were gone. Note that I'd rebooted it already in the past, after deleting the components, ander I'd already rescanned the folders. My guess is that trying to open them is a trigger for Ableton.

Thanks for thinking with me. Cheers :)

I have v8.1.1 and am unable to access "show in finder" from the plug-in browser by right-clicking.

My situation is that I've been able to get rid of all au's and vst's except those associated with Automap.

For example: "CamelCrusher" is gone, but "CamelCrusher (Automap)" lives on.

Both "System" and "User" plug-in folders are free of CamelCrusher as is the "Custom" folder in Live preferences.

I've also snooped around anything Automap related with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm having a similar problem to the ones mentioned above. I have looked at the directory:

machd/user/yourusername/library/audio/presets

I can see a folder for the vst there, but the folder is empty. I have also looked in the directory:

machd/user/yourusername/library/audio/plugins

But there isn't even a folder for it in there. In fact, I don't see any of my vsts in there. I have a demo I installed and now I can't get rid of the darn thing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE:
Here's a picture of what I'm seeing in finder
Image

It's weird because if I go into Live's preferences and act like I'm going to create a custom folder and click on the "browse" button, it immediately takes me to my current default folder and I can see all my .vst files. But once I go into finder to delete some, I can't see any of them.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

@Schiffer

Is there a AUAutomapClient.component in either of the two plugin folders?
According to the Automap manual, Automap creates a single file with the above name for all AU's that it wraps.
If it's there you could move it to a different location and check if Live still sees the deleted CamelCrusher plugin?
Maybe wise to first restart Automap before Live and let Automap rescan and rebuild that file, because maybe it's needed to properly function.

@Ryacky

Did you check the System folder as well for the plugins?
Because when reading your post you only refer to the (yourHDname)/Users/(your home folder name)/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins folder for the plugins.
On my system all the plugins are stored in the System plugin folder and not in my user plugin folder.
It's located here: (yourHDname)/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins

Tip: When making a screenshot of Finder windows in regards to file locations, turn on 'Show Path Bar' in the View settings of Finder in the Menubar.
That way one can see the previous folders which are not shown now because you scrolled to the right to show the empty vst folder.
The path bar is also very handy because you can move items or go to any folder/location in the path by double clicking the icon before the name or move files on that icon.

I must have read a gagillion posts saying to check both.... and I thought I had. But when I just now checked the extension above it worked.
