meanwhile, you can highlight a portion of the sample and drag on its headline. it will move/copy non-destructively.
then, if you drag on this item's edge - you'll reveal its content, similar to how it's in reaper.

on a personal note - reaper is in many ways more practical and flexible when it comes to editing audio. if you know your way around reaper - you'll probably find live's arrange view handicapped a bit.

Hi Funken. It sounds like you're trying to use Ctl-E in session view to break the audio when it is a function for arrangement view.
Reaper is an excellent DAW for doing the same but unless you have Record, you cannot get this functionality in Reason easily. As 4.33 eluded to, you should use the tools that you are most comfortable with to get the job done. Each has their respective strenghts and weakness and it always comes down to your workflow and what works.

I'm a little confused by what you mean here, but, if this helps at all, I dug up an old video tutorial I made way back in 2004 for Live 4 which explains how to do this. It is the simplest and quickest way to split your clips on the fly:

Hmm, I'm sorry, I'm still not getting what thin line you have to click on in order to get the Command E thing to work, unless the track is collapsed and that's how you are opening it? And yes, in my previous video, I had already dragged the clip into the arrangement view, so I guess it was confusing, but here is a new video I just did (quick and dirty) that shows the process from start to finish. There's no voice-over, but if you follow what I'm doing you'll see the steps and what I do to make interesting variations and "stutter" edits (though, again, these are quick and sloppy edits in this case):

Can you help a bit by explaining reapers editing prowess ?

I like the split at playhead command (S)
but selecting a file with the mouse moves the playhead !

Reaper is awesome but the editing in the arrangement is not.

Any help would be appreciated.

you can disable that behaviour in preferences. there's a search in the bottom of the prefs dialog window

the beauty of reaper is its custom actions - you can create or edit the keyboard command for virually any action in the program. so as soon as you get your commands under your fingers - editing audio becomes a bliss
