Its becasue players are recruited from all around the world, therefore all the best baseball players in the world play in the US....so they call it the world series.

I should add that I also never understood why it was called the World Series. I think it's embarrassing that it's named this way... Considering that up until recently, US schools taught geography using enlarged US maps (It was shown as larger than Africa) it's easy to understand how this has been accepted. Still, I find it embarrassing.

They should just rename it The Some Team Plays Against the New York Yankees and Loses Series.
