live 6 to live 7 : how should I merge the libraries?

Hi,

I just purchased live 7.

I saved my live 6 library elsewhere before installing live 7.

I remember I choosed not to replace the old library during the install process

so I've got 2 questions :

-should I install the new library, and how?
-how can I safely and easily merge the 2 libraries, so as to keep all my former presets, racks, and also have the new 7 ones in the same library?

cheers

install the new over the old. there is no separate library for Live versions.

if you insist on keeping your Live 6 library, burn it to DVD (you'll never use or need it.)

once you do that go to options-preference-library-repair Library and let Live call home to update the conetent.

install the new over the old. there is no separate library for Live versions.
but won't it erase all my former instruments and racks presets?

why does the install process asks if we want to install or not the library?

thanks for your help

cheers

it only adds and updates content.

save off your old Library if you're doubtful.

why does it ask? because it's a shitload of content that takes a while to install.

thanks Tone,

If I want to install live 7 library, should I re-install live with the dmg?

Guess the answer is yes, as there is no separate library installer though...

backup your 6 library... as you might want to go back to 6...
for me...
I rather do a clean library install and import whatever I want from the old one...(manually)
..this way I get to do some 'housekeeping' on the way!
and it's quite easy to import the presets and clips into the new Lib.

except I have a LOT of content that users have posted, stuff from Covert Operators, Track Team Audio and Pure Magnetik, not to mention all the racks and widgets I've made over the last 6 years.

you actually don't need to reinstall the packs.. just import them..live will import all the relevant files as well..(check in the prefs..)
you'd be surprised of how much garbage adds up in there..
stuff you'd never ever use..
I'm regularly throwing 2/3 of the 'supplied content' in my library ..
and slowly building my own arsenal..

oh, I believe you.

sorry to be lazy but what's your process for finding the packs and importing them? I typically install the pack then delete the .alp. perhaps I should be keeping the .alp files in a folder somewhere for this very reason.

thanks, the file manglement system scares me. I haven't been bit by it for years but I also don't taunt it, I just install stuff and use it.

I load the presets from the old library by dragging them into a new set.. .then import them to new library using the built in 'file manager'..
if you set live to collect samples outside the library..
it'll import the wavs or other relevant files into the new Library..
...if live-packs are installed on my old library I just treat their presets in the same manner
