Hi all,

I would like to replace an audio file with another one working in Logic studio.

How can I do this ?

Is it possible to create a new audio track with the same settings, plug ins, automated parameters and add a new audio file in it ?

yes, just go into the arrange window highlight the track you want to copy go to 'track' in the pulldown menu and choose 'new with duplicate setting'

add new audio file to that newly created track that has all settings, channel strip etc. like the original, voila.

p.s. unless that has changed in 9, i am still on 8. but i don't thing so, the naming might changed slightly in the pop down menu, though...

Sub, that doesn't duplicate the automation data, AFAIK.

To copy the automation between tracks, you need to set in Automation Preferences, the parameter "Move Automation With Regions?" to "Ask". Then option-drag your existing audio region to the new track. Logic will ask you to confirm "Copy/Move Automation with Region?" Then delete that audio region from the new track, leaving behind the automation when Logic asks if you want to delete the automation.


Apart from the automation, you can also use the key commands "copy channel strip setting" and "paste channel strip setting" which will duplicate everything except the audio files and automation data between tracks. ie it will re-create the exact plugins/sends/volume/routing state on a nominated channel. I find this handier to do because it always makes the new track where I tell it to, so my mixing environment doesn't get screwed up.

Pitch I think that this works fine.

in older versions of live it worked to just replace the audio file in your projekt folder by just giving the new file exact the same name.. of cause the old asd file has to stay intact...


but.. i havent done that for a while.. in this ever changing enviroment this possebility might be history...

we're talkin' Logic here... shhhhhh or Abes will beat us!

ups.. i thaught he wanted to replace the file in ableton with one modefied in logic.. i used to do that often to get rid of clicks or do some mastering on the clip...

oops, sorry i missed that he wanted to move automation as well
