Spectrum analyzer on secondary monitor/computer

Hey guys, can you help me?

I would like to have a secondary monitor showing a live spectrum analyzer of the output from my DAW (Ableton on an iMac). I have spare monitors, spare desktops and spare laptops. I should be able to make good use of at least one of them. So what's the best solution?

I'd say you'd need to use a third party device as the Live SA is fixed in the gui.

Well, I was hoping to have the analyzer analyze the output in another app or even on another computer, so not a plugin within Ableton.

maybe you could use one of those spare workstations as a dedicated spectrum analyzer :- install a light weight vst host / daw onto it - install a thord party spectrum analyzer and route your audio signals where you like (A nice little signal selecter box would do it).

(If you've a multi port soundcard you could in fact do the same on your imac with audio being routed from wherever you choose...)

Damn good idea actualy (seen loads of pro studios with a monitor dedicated to the SA) Might try it myself!

You could also use a second monitor, a sound routing app (eg. Jack) and a stand alone spectrum analyzer or a light weight daw and a vst. That'll increase the load on your CPU though...
