I just went from a lifetime of pc to buying the new imac. I will never go back. being able to have ableton run off in the background with a huge set and still be able to surf the net. lovely stuff.

...wait for the quad-core MacBook Pro's to come out.

I do this all the time in Windows 7. It is a multi-tasking beast at least equal to OSX. I can totally understand about hating Windows though, just saying that what you are talking about is easily possible with windows. In fact I'm exporting a 43 track project in the background while copying files, burning a DVD, and writing this post all at the same time.

Well I realise this probably bucks the trend of platform shifting. I switched to Mac in early 2006 with the advent of Intel iMacs. Generally I was very happy with the stability of OSX compared to Win XP and thought I would never entertain a return to PCs. However in the last month I bought the wife a budget Compaq laptop with an AMD dual core system running windows 7. As it turned out, she never went away and I got an extra laptop to play with. It is rock solid, the performance is A1 and stability is (touch wood) perfect so far...NOT ONE CRASH OR HICCUP! The upshot is, I am probably going to go back to the Windows platform as I have been sorely let down by the quality control in my two imacs and MBP. Failed superdrives in the iMacs, dodgy HD and flakey backlighting in the MBP.

Mac....Love the OS, but just not convinced of the quality of hardware considering the price tag.
PC....The OS is finally there and I can choose the quality of hardware....

I'm sure you know much more about computers than I do, but your Mac is 4 years old compared to a new PC, and the OS is pretty important. Own enough computers and you will run into problems. Glad the PC is working good though, I've heard that they've improved a lot. One is not "better" than the other, they are different.

I wouldn't use a PC if someone gave it to me, I'd pawn it off on an elderly neighbor. But then again I wouldn't play a Les Paul either, I like Fenders and that's how I look at it- a matter of preference. Whatever trips your trigger. Use what ya got. Computers don't write songs... yet.

Edit: No offense but I gotta disagree about the quality of the hardware. That's just not been my experience, quite the opposite. There is no "no brainer" when it comes to spending your money on a big ticket item like a computer. Everyone told me to buy a Toyota when I bought a car a few years ago. I liked the Volkswagon's "OS", the way the car is designed to feel and operate. Toyota supposedly had the best "hardware". The design of a thing you use everyday is important.

My next computer will be a PC cause a Mac for music is far too expensive.
