Actually yes, in some circumstances it does. In these cases the CPU meter in Live shows a value 30-40% less than that allocated according to Task Manager. Performance is compromised. The issue is currently under investigation. There may be a link with M-Audio's Firewire Audiophile or Firewire in some way.

No link with M-audio hardware here (at least not exclusively). Yesterday, I checked the CPU usage in the activity monitor with Live 4.04 on my Pbook, with both the remote 25 audio and the motu 828. Opened a project with two instances of Stylus (classic version), one V-Station, about 6 to 8 audio tracks and a few native FX. To my surprise, I got almost similar results with both : Live showed me a CPU usage between 35 and 45%, but the Task Manager told me Live had eaten between 65 and 80-85% of the CPU. At first, I was impressed by the optimization of Live4 for Mac... Useless to say I'm much less impressed now, at least when I use VI.
cpu @ 100%

Hi,
I have the same probs with live 4.04 and my powerbook alu 1ghz/1.5 ram (osx 10.3.6)......live show me 30-40 % cpu and in the activity monitor my cpu is 100% and live use 75% , and this is with different hardware config, and also with different soft config( with midi-audio , only audio..etc).
I come completely crazy ......
My plan is format my HD the next week ... but I dont tink so that's change something ....
I am really desapointed....

I will have only Live 4.04 on just idling, then will press any button and the CPU usage will spike from 1% to 60%. Also causes audio to glitch.

email ableton direct with your problem using the link on the forum index page, at the 'bugs and problems' section
I have been on at them for a month now and they just ignore my emails, I guess the problem must be a serious one!!!

For PC-HT-users: Live has added a "affinity-check"-feature in 4.0.3 & it's still in 4.0.4. Before this, the "affinity" had to be set manually, cause Live's NOT HT-capable - yet..! So if the "affinity" (taskman-prosesses-right-click Live & select "affinity" - unhook one of the CPUs if both are hooked) - set to both CPUs, the Live-cpumeter will spike very fast!
Just some pc-info.. i'm not sure if it's the same process for macs, tho..

ive been having problems with live 4.0.4 and cpu usage too
im running it on a 1.07 ibook g4 w/512MB of ram and it shows me about 25-30% cpu load with just two simplers and filter delays...
i hope they put out the next update soon cause if potential buyers are reading this forum they probably wont buy shit....

i have the same prob, but i have a shared-grafik-modul and live shows only the audio-usage not the whole-usage. but the grafik-features are computed bx the cpu not by the grafikcard and if you enable the song-follow you will win a lot of perfomances.
but, there is another problem, if i use a reaktor ens. standalone it needs much lesser cpu-power than i use it in live. and thats not all, there is a magic-problem too: if the track is activated where a cpu-hungry-plug is put, the taskmanager jump more, than i have a empty track activated. All with the same arrangment.
