Loud Noise Blast

I'm using Live Intro 8.0.9 on a Dell Inspiron 530 Core2 Duo with 320GB HDD, 3GB ram, Windows XP Home with SP3. My sound card is a NI Rig Kontrol 3.
Occasionally I'll get a horrendous noise blast during playback. It sounds like a shotgun going off about one foot from my face. It also sounds like when you drop a guitar amp with a spring reverb tank while the amp is turned on.
Here is what I have tried to isolate/eliminate the problem:
Rolled back my sound card (Rig Kontrol) driver.
Defragged the hard drive.
Disabled all background services.
Removed all VSTe and VSTi from the set.
Disabled all Hi-Q from the clips.
Deleted all clips that were 11K and 22K sample rate - all clips now are 44.1KHz.
It is impossible to do any composition on Live the way it is currently running.
I must say that Live is the coolest, most elegant and powerful DAW I've ever used and I'm dying to get this sorted out so I can start using it.
Has anyone had any similar problems? Any ideas on what I might test or check would be greatly appreciated.
I have used this computer for about two years with Reaper, Cubase, Tracktion, Acid, Sound Forge and Studio One without any problems remotely like this.
EDIT: This noise happens at exactly the same place (6:25) on the track but does not happen on every pass. Is is as though something has to happen to "prep" the conditions for the blast to occur.
In addition, I do remember years ago having the same noise when I loaded up the .dxi version of BBE Sonic Maximizer in a host (Tracktion) that would not run .dxi effects or instruments.
