I installed Live 4.0.4 and have notices Live 3 performance on my Mac

5 tracks, lite fx, and 1 reverb on "economy" and I was cutting out and pegged 89% on the bar.

Am I the only one?

Yo,

I know our precious mac laptops are slower, but that, my friend, is ridiculous...unless of course you are using the built in LIVE midi instruments??? Otherwise for just audio and a few FX you should be down around 35%...(depending on your plug-ins)

yeah, you really need to be more specific, what do you mean when you say "lite fx" ?

1 audio channel, 2 midi running an Impulse and Albino VSTi.

2 Live comperssors, 1 Supatrigga, 1 Live reverb

live reverb @ economy, comfort, or first class quality setting?

please don't think i am insulting your intelligence here, as we just need to rule out some potentially obvious culprits Often times the source of a problem is the easiest to fix. When someone calls tech support because their computer isn't working and the reason is they didn't switch the power button on, that doesn't make them stupid, it makes Tech Supports job easy

Now...

Make sure your energy saver settings are set to "Highest" for Processor (NOT Automatic.).

In your live set, make sure any audio clips (though you only have one) that aren't transposed have the "Hi-Q" button turned OFF. Hi-Q only efffects transpose, not timestretch, and requires more cpu cycles. This may not be a huge difference on your current set, but its good for future reference.

are you using an external 3rd party audio device?

some of albinos presets especailly those with their own internally routed effects or complex modulations will chew your cpu right up........I have noticed the same thing on my system.

You are dealing with a genius. Ummm... Ok, not quite. Actually neither of these tips I knew, so I'll check those (when I get home, where my rig is right now)...

Has to be Albino. Right now I have 6 audio tracks and four midi tracks running. Two ableton verbs set to economy, two compressor 1, one compressor 2, supatrigga, apple peak limiter, 2 simpler and 2 impulse.

I was basically throwing stuff on till I got sick of the noise.

cpu is maxing at 60%.

Hey kabuki...the problem is your Albino. I have it and use it and to be honest whenever my processor starts to crap out, it always comes down to that synth. (minus FX processors of course). Be careful when you're using the Albino's native effects because it really bites down on your processor. If I'm right you aren't using it for "live" performance. If that's the case, write your music with the Albino, and bounce it to an audio file.

Once you have your audio file, you can ditch the synth that's causing the problems (but of course don't rid of the midi file and preset you're working with just in case you need to go back and change some things). Then you can use specialized FX, which besides reverb units, generally will have a lot less strain on your processor. Hope that helps. I know bouncing down can be a bit tedious and can "kill the moment", but it's just something that you and I (as well as others) have to just deal with when writing and relying on laptop processor capabilities.

OOPS, almost forgot. Also maybe take a look at the settings for your sound card as well as the sampling rate in Live's preferences. Keep your sampling rate for both the card at 44,100, and the bit depth to 16. Increasing either one of these in addition the the voice count on the Albino...and the other advice others on this post gave should help your problem. If you already did this...oh well...we can all admit that we've screamed at something til we're blue in the face only to find an unconnected plug.
